February: The year started off great with a winter trip to New York City. Add on an extra day, due to the 12” of snow and everything was perfect!
My 2nd favorite cupcake in the world! Pistachio from Sugar Sweet Sunshine. My absolute favorite: Lemon Raspberry from Vanilla Bakeshop in Santa Monica.
My cupcake had a skirt! (from Amy's Bread in NYC)
While every trip is a foodie's dream, this trip was a culinary wonderland! Some of the best food we have ever had. Check out our post on it here, here, here and oh yeah, here. For non-food posts, but NYC related, check out this and this.
Late February: After the trip, the year took a turn downward with Natalie’s mom having a stroke and requiring a heart and brain surgery during the first half of the year. However, the upside of this is without the illness, the two problems would not have been found!
March: The recession takes its toll on non-profit giving and Natalie is laid off from her “dream job”. That’s okay, things could always be worse. Natalie takes this time to catch up on her to-do list and find the “perfect job”.
April – August: Summer fun and job hunting
End of August: The year is starting to turn upward. Natalie starts working at her favorite advertising agency (her “better-than-perfect” job) in town and the Powers’ score an amazing house four days later.
September: A whirlwind month! Travel to eight states in fifteen days (layovers and meetings); a California wedding; our first anniversary; closing on our house – whew!
Traveling with Roy = perks of the Delta Sky Club. I heart the Sky Club, even if it means getting on this small of a plane afterwards.

Good-bye 836 and our charming neighborhood of five years...
November: Travis turns 31, painting ensues! A Willie Nelson concert helps ease the soreness of manual labor.
December: Travis’ anniversary with the best newspaper in town, holiday parties, endless hours of work and a completed (for now) house (pics coming soon). Wrapped up the year with a quiet weekend at home. Perfection.
Say la vie, 2009!
What does 2010 hold for us?
- Two mini-vacations, one mighty one
- Continued work on the house, particularly the back yard!
- More time spent with friends and family
- Learning a new skill, any skill, but a new one
- Relaxing more
- Starting a regimen of only eating food that is good for us or something we really desire in small doses (no more eating without a purpose)
What are your 2010 plans? I have a strong feeling that this is going to be a good year/decade, even if I have to will it to happen!
