NYC Trip Report, 2.28.09

Happy five-month anniversary, honey!

Travis and I are foodies at heart and love a great or unique meal. Saturday was a day of eating at all of the places we had wanted to before, but missed. (Note: we shared most items to save on calories and cost.)

On Saturday, we slept in a bit to overcome our recent sleep deprivation. It was marvelous!

Our first stop of the day – Shake Shack, an outdoor "shack" with tables, chairs and warming lamps for its guests.

More awesome than the burgers...

This is the best burger I have ever eaten. Seriously. It is famous for its long lines on weekdays due to its populatiry. Travis and I decided to split a double shack burger. While small in size (not much larger than a fist), it was large in taste.

Off to Pommes Frites, an East Village hot-spot of potato goodness. Belguim fries cooked to delicious crispness and served with an array of dipping sauces. The store is tiny, tiny, tiny so get your order to go in case you can’t find a seat in the house.

It is no wider than 3.5 people standing shoulder to shoulder.

A cone of fries with frite sauce, wasabi mayo, garlic mayo and horseradish mayo.

A strolling walk through the East Village and Lower East Side brings us to Sugar Sweet Sunshine. I’m one to give kudos where kudos are deserved and this place was wonderful! Travis enjoyed the Ooey Gooey and I devoured the Pistachio. YUM!

Ugh! Our bellies are so full. A quick subway ride to Union Square will fix that. We strolled through the farmer’s market and stumbled upon this booth.

This man takes pinhole images that are inspiring. The look is so soft, yet vintage. I secretly took photos of his booth to show off his work. Too bad I was too busy taking photos and didn’t get a card from him. We did purchase one that says “This moment is more precious that you think.” Travis and I are going to try out this process as soon as we can figure out how.

After a little shopping and finishing the photos needed for our wedding, we were off to our staple – Faces and Names for dinner and then to the hotel.
Nine and a half miles in one day makes for some tired redheads and sore feet!

Artistic photos to follow after the trip posts.

I changed my mind! I want pistachio and ooey gooey! ;) It looks like you two had a great time. I'm sorry you couldn't find the blockhead lager. I will try to get some down here for you to sample at the end of the month.
