NYC Trip Report, 3.2.09

...a winter wonderland! Waking up early to news reports of cancelled schools, cancelled flights and snows plows working all night, did not settle our nerves for the trip we were about to make to Penn Station. We had grave concerns of making it to Newark Airport and being stranded, since every other flight was cancelled.

So with the help of a friendly front desk clerk and a more than courteous American Airlines associate, we were officially snowed-in. So, what do people do in NYC on a snow day? Off to the park to play! We grabbed our cameras - the Canon and Holga - and we were off to see the winter wonderland of Central Park.

When leaving the park, I made the mistake of stepping in a hidden puddle. A huge hidden puddle! We quickly ran over to Columbus Circle/Time Warner Building to Whole Foods for a quick draining of my running shoes and sterilization of my foot. YUCK!

If you haven't been in a Whole Foods, it is a cook's/foodies dream come true. There are varieties of produce beyond your wildest dreams and the same goes for meats, coffee, breads...well, you get the point. Each trip, we make it a point to go into the NYC grocery stores to ooohhh and ahhhh over the selections. Yes, we realize we are weird, but we are okay with that.

Another perk of Whole Foods is their prepared food area. Any food you desire, they have it. From sushi to comfort food to salad bar to Indian food - everything! We grabbed a quick lunch and sat in the common area, just people watching, warming up and enjoying our snow day with the rest of NYC.

I'd like to report that the rest of the day was something adventurous and wild, but it wasn't. We took it as a literal snow day - taking naps and watching TV in the hotel room. It was heavenly since we rarely just lie around at home.

We did trek 10 blocks in the snow to Amy's Bread for dinner and over to Times Square for an evening photo with the Holga camera.

After a long day, we retired to bed with one of Amy's cupcakes. What a delight and even better, it had a skirt!

This is a great way to end our trip with sweet dreams and ready for the trip home. All in all, in may not have been eventful, but it was just right. It was a trip to accomplish everything we wanted to and a nice way to say goodbye to our annual trips to NYC for at least a couple of years.

It's the city that brought us together, the city we fell in love in/with and the city we were married in...it will always remain in our hearts and we look forward to traveling there again some day.
